Patrick PolakManaging Partner
Patrick is the joint founder of Newion that was set up in December 2000 and he has been active as a venture capitalist since 1997.
After completing his studies in Aerospace Engineering in Delft, he jointly founded an IT company. He sold his interest in this company at the end of 1996.
He started his career as a VC at N.V. NOM in Groningen at the start of 1997 where he was mainly responsible for investments in IT-related businesses. In addition to the IT investments, he has also funded various other types of companies.
Patrick has and had positions on various Non Executive boards. He is on the Board of Collibra, CustomerGauge, iWelcome and Servoy. In addition, he is also actively involved with Tech Tour and Venture Café Rotterdam.
In the past he was among others a Non-Executive Board Member with Oxxio, Mirror 42 and LeanApps.
Frank ClaassenManaging Partner
Before he joined Newion, he worked, since 1997 for F. van Lanschot Bankiers where he held various positions including Business Banker and Corporate Finance Manager.
Frank has thus gained broad experience in financing (family) firms, growth financing and MBO financing. He has also overseen various takeover and sales processes. Frank studied Business Economics at the University of Tilburg. He is actively involved with the companies 24i Media, Nallian, L1NDA and XVR.
Frank has been working for Newion since 2005.
Mathijs de WitPartner
Mathijs joined Newion in January 2012 as an analyst. He was involved in the analyses of new investment opportunities and supported the team with market and strategic analysis of portfolio companies. As of January 2014 he is also involved in the investment process and is actively involved with The Next Ad.
Prior to joining Newion Investments Mathijs obtained a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Delft University of Technology and took part in several extracurricular entrepreneurship programs during his graduation.
Thomas joined Newion in January 2015. As a Investment Associate he is involved in the analyses of new investment opportunities and supports the team with market and strategic analysis of portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Newion, Thomas obtained a B.Sc in business economics and a master in strategic management at the university of Tilburg and a master in Development, Innovation and Change at the university of Bologna (Italy). Thomas has a strong interest and focus on entrepreneurship and showed this in his career and study choices.
Before joining Newion Geert worked from 1985 for Meeuwsen ten Hoopen & Co Accountants and from 2000 as a controller at Gaswacht Zwolle. Geert is a qualified accountant-administration consultant (AA). Today he is part-time CFO at the portfolio companies Asysco and Amyyon. In the past he was involved with Inforay International, LightWeight Ventures, IBT, Datell and Wisdom TMLC.
Geert joined Newion in 2003. He has been involved where needed as a financial controller in compiling (financial) management information at various portfolio companies. Near the financials of our latest fund he is also involved with all Due Diligences.
Erik Aeyelts AverinkVenture Partner
Erik joined Gilde IT fund in 1993, where he was as investment manager, director and partner leading 15 investments in Europe, Israel and the US. He was in the Non-Executive Board of several IT companies.
In 2004 he joined SDL Tridion, one of the leading global Web Content Management software companies. First he was Corporate Development Advisor, later he became President Products & Solutions. He was as member of the executive board part of the team that executed the acquisition by the UK company SDL in May of 2007.
In 2009 Erik left SDL Tridion and acted as Business Angel and advisor to several early stage and later stage companies, before joining Newion. Erik studied Economics at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam.
Erik Aeyelts Averink works at Newion since April 2011 and is actively involved with Reasult and Instant Magazine.
Jaap van BarneveldPartner
Jaap is the joint founder of Newion that was set up in December 2000 and he has operated as a venture capitalist since 1992.
His background is in banking and accountancy. He started his career at Rabobank and then went on via a controller position at a shipping company to work for Dijker en Doornbos Accountants (now PWC).
In 1986, he was appointed controller at NV NOM after which he carried out many MBO/MBI financing and growth financing operations. Jaap has occupied or is still occupying positions on various Non Executive Boards. He is involved with Reasult, Amyyon and Inforay International. Since December 2010 he is also part-time CEO at Asysco Group B.V.
In the past he was Board Member with companies like Resato, Anago and Wisdom TMLC.
